Islas Heating and Cooling heating repair technician diagnosing a heating system

Professional Heating Repair

When your home isn't heating the way it should, Islas Heating & Cooling diagnoses the heating system first — furnace, heat pump, thermostat, airflow, and controls — then recommends a repair based on what the equipment actually needs.

If you smell gas, see smoke, or suspect a combustion or carbon-monoxide hazard, leave the home and call your gas utility or 911 first. Once you're safe, call us — we don't provide DIY repair steps for combustion or electrical-safety hazards.

Is Your Heating System Having One of These Problems?

Any of these may point to a repairable heating issue. Several can have more than one possible cause, which is why inspection matters.

Heating system will not turn on
System runs but does not warm the home
Cool or lukewarm air from the vents
Heating turns on and off repeatedly
Weak airflow
Uneven room temperatures
Thermostat calls for heat but equipment does not respond
System runs continuously
Heat pump struggles in heating mode
Blower behaves unexpectedly
Unusual noises
Burning or electrical odor
Breaker trips
Heating performance has noticeably changed

Heating Diagnosis, Not Guesswork

These symptoms can have several possible causes. "Not enough heat" could be the heat source, the thermostat or controls, airflow, the blower, a heat pump struggling in heating mode, or an electrical condition — and sometimes several overlap.

A technician needs to inspect and test the relevant parts of the system to determine the actual problem. We diagnose before we recommend — no guesswork, no one-size-fits-all answer.

Diagnostic Service Fee — $75

Our current HVAC diagnostic/service fee is $75. The fee covers diagnosing the system, identifying the issue, and providing a repair estimate. If you proceed with the approved repair, the diagnostic fee is applied toward the repair according to current company policy. This is a diagnostic visit — not a "free estimate."

Heating System Categories

Organized by system area, not a single interchangeable parts list. Each links to a dedicated authority page where one exists — we keep deep furnace and heat-pump detail where it belongs.

Furnace Problems

Furnace not starting, starts and stops, insufficient heat, or the thermostat is calling but the furnace isn't responding. Furnace-specific diagnosis (ignition, burners, furnace controls) lives on our Furnace Repair page.

Furnace Repair

Heat Pump Heating Problems

A heat pump can develop heating-specific operating problems involving controls, thermostat configuration, auxiliary heat, defrost, or airflow. Heat-pump-specific diagnosis lives on our Heat Pump Repair page.

Heat Pump Repair

Thermostat & Control Problems

Heating complaints can involve thermostat or control configuration — compatibility, wiring, C-wire, Nest Power Connector, heat-pump and auxiliary-heat settings, staging. As a Google Nest Pro we handle compatibility, setup, and testing.

Google Nest Pro

Airflow & Blower Problems

Weak airflow, uneven heating, or a blower not operating correctly. Several system conditions can produce similar symptoms — we inspect rather than automatically blame the ducts, filter, or blower motor.

Electrical / System Operation

Possible wiring, relay, board, capacitor, control, or breaker-related symptoms. Electrical diagnosis is professional work — we inspect and test; we don't walk you through DIY electrical repair.

Furnace Repair

Furnace-specific diagnosis — not starting, starts and stops, insufficient heat, ignition, burners, and furnace-specific controls — lives on our Furnace Repair page rather than here.

Heat Pump Repair

Heat-pump-specific diagnosis — defrost, reversing operation, mode switching, and auxiliary heat — lives on our Heat Pump Repair page, since a heat pump handles both heating and cooling.

Not Sure If It's the Heater, the AC, or Something Else?

If your complaint isn't clearly heating-specific — or your cooling is also affected — our HVAC Repair page takes a broader system-level approach to diagnosis.

What Happens During a Heating Service Visit

1

Discuss the heating concern

Tell us what the system is doing — and when it started.

2

Evaluate heating operation

The technician inspects the heating equipment, controls, and relevant operating conditions.

3

Test what's related to the complaint

Components and conditions tied to your symptom are tested — not a fixed checklist for every job.

4

Identify the likely source

Findings are based on what the tests show.

5

Explain the findings

You get a clear explanation in plain language.

6

Provide repair options and investment

Pricing is explained before any work begins.

7

Proceed only after your authorization

Nothing is repaired or replaced until you say go.

Not every test applies to every job — the technician runs the checks relevant to your complaint and your heating system.

What Happens After Diagnosis

Once the source is identified, we explain the findings in plain language and present your options. That may be a specific repair, a maintenance or service recommendation, further evaluation, or — when repair is no longer the reasonable investment — a replacement discussion. You see the repair investment before any work begins, and nothing is repaired or replaced until you approve it. We diagnose before we recommend.

Repair vs Replacement

We don't push replacement. When you're weighing it, we look at the system's condition, age, repair history, the current repair investment, reliability, comfort, efficiency, safety, and parts availability — then help you decide whether repair or replacement is the more reasonable investment. No hard age cutoff.

If replacement does become the right call, we're a YORK® dealer and can help you explore equipment that fits your home and budget — without pressuring you into it.

Factors We Consider

  • Equipment age
  • Current condition
  • Repair history
  • Current repair investment
  • Reliability
  • Comfort
  • Efficiency
  • Safety
  • Parts availability
  • Your long-term plans

Free Replacement Estimates

Complete HVAC system replacement estimates are free when the visit is specifically for gathering replacement information — evaluating your needs, taking pictures, and preparing a replacement proposal. That's different from a diagnostic visit, which addresses an existing system problem. Tell us which type of visit you need when you schedule.

Preventive Maintenance — $75 Tune-Up

A seasonal tune-up helps catch worn components, dirty coils, and airflow issues before they turn into a heating repair call. It's distinct from a diagnostic visit — maintenance keeps a working system running; a diagnostic finds out why a struggling one isn't.
